The article wasn't only about Apple, but it suggested that specs are "dead". But the general consensus here is that a comparison of specs is essential when comparing devices from the same company that offer the same "eco-system". After all, they want you to upgrade every year, don't they? (No, I don't do that). Specs only give you part of the picture for comparisons between devices using different OSs.

iPhone 4 vs 4S is the best example of the importance of specs --- nothing changed but specs for this upgrade. The other companies tend to at least make minor cosmetic changes. That is the reason why I am talking about Apple.

And of course, you haven't addressed the all important question --- why trade up from the 4 to the 4S if not for specs?
