My daughter has done a fair bit of adventure backpacking with her Sony 350 in a standard Sony cover (with a rubber band around to be extra secured). The cover gives decent protection an she does use her brain when packing and don't just throw the reader in there.
I think the small form factor helps in keeping the reader from bending/twisting.
