Amazon's potential disruptive advantage would be the same as the Fire approach-instead of carriers subsidizing the cost of the hardware, Amazon could (theoretically). Instead of a free phone with a two year carrier contract, how about a free phone with, say, a two year Amazon Prime contract instead?
It still needs a phone company for the phone related stuff. Maybe they will have an offer of: free phone with the carrier contract + cheaper Amazon Prime contract.
