I don't know about how tough most of the accessories are. I have read about Klear Kase and it looks like a pretty tough case. If you are backpacking you want to minimize weight while protecting your Kindle. You are probably going to have to do a bit of research to figure out what works best for you case wise and then what readers are associated with that case.
