The way you described it, it sounded like you were missing parts of the image itself, which is not the case (I presume).
I understand nothing is "cut off," but since (on my 950) the standby image is currently stretched to fit the length of the screen there is definitely about 20% of the image (10% on each side) missing because the image is too wide to fit on the screen.

Yes, I would prefer that the standby image is treated the same way calibre treats (by default) its ePub cover images and fills the entire screen.
