Maybe it's proof that Amazon is winning the ebook sales award.

If Amazon/Mobi is the largest US ebook reader in sales...imagine the horror of Pub Execs when the people who normally would 1-click purchase a new release converted to use of the library system. I'm sure that if we looked a new ebook sales data compared to the date Kindle became available for libraries we would see signs of teeth-gnashing.
