Other than upacking the ZIP then I believe that the answer is no with existing capability. It would probably not be difficult to unpack all the ZIP files and then extract the actual ebook files to add them in bulk if you wanted to go that route..

The alternative would be to decide you are not happy with this restriction within Calibre itself and then work out the needed changes to the source to achieve what you want. In such a case the changes would almost certainly be accepted by Kovid for incorporation into the standard release.

This illustrates both the strengths and weaknesses of the open-source model used by Calibre. Anyone is free to make changes that will benefit the many, but they have to have the motivation and skills to do it.
