If your administrator is actually depending on WEP to secure a wireless network, tell him to move into the 21st century and look at WPA2. Much like rainbow tables made LM password hashes trivial to crack, there are several tools that make cracking a WEP password trivial. Check into using a BackTrack 5 Live DVD with a compatible wireless NIC to collect the data for aircrack-ng as an example

I agree that other Encryption protocols would be a better option security-wise, however some of the cards we are supporting do not work well with WPA2 for one reason or another so to support the Lowest Common Denominator we are using WEP for a portion of out network. We do however make sure that it is on a segment that is non-crucial but still gives Internet access. If on the other hand Kobo devices supported Proxy servers I could connect to the WPA2 hub.
