Ok,
I got my new PE in the mail today. The first thing I did was charge the battery and tear the damn thing apart. I hooked it up to serial and ran the bbt help. I remember now that it is a two step process. First thing you need to do is initialize the nand.
1. bbt init nand
It will scan the blocks for bad read / writes.
2. bbt mark nand
This should mark any bad blocks in the file system.
