Rooting For Dummies?

Hey all. I've got a Nook Classic (First Edition) that I'm interested in rooting for added functionality and better ease of use. It's a 1005xx serial, currently with 1.7 installed. I've read Nookdevs endlessly, I've familiarized myself with android sdk and all of that stuff. I believe I have a basic understanding of what to do and enough computer savvy to pull it off.

But the explanations and step-by-step guides I've read are just so freakin' confusing. They seem unclear and hard to follow, like there are multiple methods but only fragments of each one out there.

Is there a definitive, plainly written "this is how you do it" method out there?

I downloaded batch files too, but I have no idea how to use them.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?
