Typical signs. A strip up the LH side and the bottom of the screen show only vertical lines. Also my PC no longer sees it as a USB device, which seems odd. It's going back to WH Smiths tomorrow.
If it's all straight lines with no curved stuff on it it's probably a controller wire loose. Truly broken substrate will almost always have some curvature on the display.
IMHO I don't think the biggest danger to e-ink screens is dropping but is twisting/bending of the body of the device.
