I ordered a brown one a couple weeks back and I still have the, "We'll let you know" status. I've been with Amazon Kindle since 1.0. They always do this. I think they call it "expectation management."; they announce sketchy release dates, give various estimates in the interim, and then deliver "early." Brilliant.
