A nice thought. Unfortuately, we don't purchase e-books, we purchase only a non-transferrable license to read them.
I expect e-books to decimate the used book market. Oh, used books won't disappear, but the size of the inventory will be a shadow of its former self. It's one of the reasons my older sister hates e-books. "Evil," she says. "Perhaps," I reply, "but oh so convenient."
