The Kindle is no more DRM-heavy than ePub DRM schemes. In fact, it is easier to use, as no Adobe software is required to activate the book. You just download the book to the device, and it works. There is nothing like iTunes or any other software installed on a pc involved.
Of course, it is probably not the best choice for PDF files. A larger screen, like an iPad, would be better for that, as most PDFs have a large page size, similar to a piece of paper.
