Just re-installed 0.8.26 and connections to server are working now...... thanks for the quick response Kovid! You are right... the "allow incoming connection" for Calibre somehow got flipped to "don't allow". I don't recall the "allow?" prompt upon launch (as usual). Not sure what happened....
