Since I like comedies:
The entire Giffen/Dematteis run on Justice League, (The cover for Limekiller at Large #1 is a homage to that series.),which means I also recommend their series Hero Squared from Boom studios.

I'm a big fan of Marvel's "Essentials" and DC's "Showcase" lines, if for no other reason than you get a bunch of comics for a fairly low price.

Mark Waid's Irredeemable and Incorruptible from Boom Studios are very good.

And of course any Carl Barks Donald Duck or Uncle scrooge stories you can find.

I'd recommend my own series, but since it's not a 100% comic book, I'm not sure if it applies.

EDIT- Almost forgot one: The Cricket by Jef Holbrook, available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble, but I'm not sure about anywhere else. The writing is very funny and the art was deliberately formatted for e-readers, as opposed to just being ported over from a print version. I have mixed feelings on the artwork, but it's growing on me, and I wish the issues were a bit longer, but otherwise it's a good read.
