Sony have plenty of keenly priced competitors in the US (eg Kindle Touch, Kobo Touch, Nook). It makes sense for them to capture as much of the Xmas market as they can before the Kindle Touch comes out.

In the UK the only touchscreen reader competition they have is the Kobo at £109......so Sony UK can be a bit more relaxed about their pricing.
