Well said. And for me, from my vantage point in the Pacific Northwest (born and raised Portlander), Burke takes me on an insightful visit to another another country and culture. I haven't been reading the Robicheaux books in chronological order, but I don't feel like I'm missing much by not doing so. Burke weaves in background deftly for a series author.

I recommend Burke for most any reader. I don't read a lot of police mystery (nothing against them, mind you) but I thoroughly enjoy this.
