Well, I'm pleased to report that I've now cracked the code for downloading books (at least via the computer - when it failed yesterday I was trying to download directly to the device from kobobooks.com). When I downloaded via their reader software, it worked fine (although the software keeps freeezing on me, and so does the Sony... :/ ).
