(Nook Study is PC and Mac (i.e., real computer) only.)
Agreed, especially if you're an English major (I was too). It would be great for reading books, especially if you're focusing on the older, public-domain classics ('cause they're free!), but if you're looking at general productivity as well, a Nook probably won't cut it. Nook Study won't work on it and the stock browser doesn't allow for tabbed browsing which could make research difficult. As for papers, you can get a word processor for the Nook, but trying to write a scholarly paper would be very frustrating IMO. It's a great machine, but it's really geared much more towards entertainment. If you can only afford one device and you don't already have a computer of some sort, you're much better off with a netbook.
