This book is typical 'Dave Robecheaux.' Clete Percell is in there, as are several other regulars. Lot's of sno'balls, boudin (white and heated in the microwave,) drive-through daiquiri windows, and of course lots poor folk living in shacks. But the plot is solid and deep, the story line captivating, the action realistic and bloody, and this book certainly makes you anxious to see the next in the series.
The book can stand on it's own, but like so many series, would benefit from reading from the first book to follow Robicheaux's life as a law enforcement officer in the southern Louisiana parishes. I usually put a Clifton Chenier CD on in the background just to set the mood.

I've got the first couple of Robecheaux books, and have been meaning to read them for ages. Your post has encouraged me to make that sooner rather than later, once I have finished to current round of MR "book club" reads.
