I got a K4SO for my son for Christmas. He didn't want the touch screen, and the K4 seems like the easiest way to see whether he'll actually use an ereader. It was my idea, not his, to get him one, and it's my way of saving my Pratchett paperbacks from further degradation... some of them are getting pretty old and worn. If he winds up using it a lot, and if he feels the lack of an mp3 player/TTS, we can upgrade him to one of the bigger Kindles later.
I've got a K3 with wifi and 3G - and have never used TTS except to demo it for a friend, and prefer my iPod Nano (5th gen - the new ones are really just too small) for my audible books. I've only once tried using the experimental browser to look something up on FB, and the trauma from that experience may haunt me to my grave.
