I did not bother to download it to check if it was different, since I have stopped using it.

I didn't think too much of Calibre either until I used it for a while.
You must be talking about firmware in the wifi device. I'm talking about the Reader Library Software on my PC.

I stepped through the downloads there and it does say 10/31/2011 and is a different version than I have installed -- version-wise an older one....hmmm.... that one says 1.1.xxx and the one I currently have installed on my win7-64 machine says 3.3.xxxx and when I do "Check for Updates" it says No Updates Available.

Something is non-kosher....

Edit/Added: I just went in using Sony 505 and came to this page:

if you click on "Reader/Ebook Library" it displays both the 3.3 and the 1.1 versions and lists the 3.3 as an "Upgrade" for the earlier devices.....weirder and weirder...
