I thought we were referring to a unique problem on the T-1, but folks at that link were also reporting this as a problem on the PRS-650? I'm sorry I just don't believe that. It certainly hasn't been reported here, has it?
I know the devices use power during standby, by while in standby epubs do not use "a lot of power." Leaving an mp3 playing uses a lot of power, but I do not believe that an open and idle epub uses a lot of power.
Bottom line is the OP was referring to extreme battery drain in 3 days. An open epub has never previously been associated with this kind of extreme drain on the battery.
Following Kate's advice will most likely solve this issue for the OP. If not I would return the device.
