I bought a white T1 yesterday from a Sony shop. It looks great and doesn't show any marks from handling.

I also have it connected to my Mac. The first time you attach it to the Mac, the Finder (think "Windows Explorer") shows an installer for the Mac version of the Sony Reader software. It works OK for me, and I think you have to use the desktop reader to initially authorise your reader hardware. Or at least you do here in the UK where there's no Sony Reader online store.

But the Sony Reader Mac software seems OK anyway.

So your dad's got no excuses
