Two accounts?

I just purchased my Kobo Touch yesterday and I find I am completely frustrated by the Kobo Desktop programme. Things were going fine until I added some of the free ebooks to my kobo website library. Just to try things out - I've not purchased anything yet. I was unable to get them onto the Kobo itself by syncing through Desktop, so I did it by WiFi (have wireless at home). This seemed to work fine until I opened Kobo Desktop again. It now tells me that I am using two accounts (both of which they list, both of which are identical). I cannot figure this out. I've logged out of everything (including checking that I'm logged out of Whitcoulls), shut down and re-started everything - the usual, to no avail. Please help!?
LOVE the unit. Not so much in love with the programme (have now downloaded Calibre and my blood pressure has come down somewhat).
ps i'm on a Macbook Pro.
