The software upgrade to the Nook color (
B&N cutting Nook Color price to $199, adding Hulu Plus and more streaming music) is the right strategy for the long term, but it might cost B&N in the short term. Some Nook Color owners will stick with what they have, at least for now. However, I expect B&N to sell more Tablets than Colors doing forward.
The $199 Color insulates B&N from the Fire, since they offer pay the same for a bit less hardware or pay a bit more for more hardware than the Kindle Fire. A two way choice between Tablet and Fire might favor the Fire, but a three way choice Color, Table, Fire gives B&N more ways to win over the buyer.
