I've been looking at tablets with HDMI out (which Kindle Fire doesn't have), thinking I could stream the videos onto my TV.
I realize that my question regarding tablets was slightly off-topic, so I will start another thread regarding that when I need more information.

If you have a Roku you can pick up where you left off from the Kindle Fire. The Roku is as low as $49 (that version should be out this month). So I would think about that. Plus with Roku you can get Hulu +, Netflix, Crackle Amazon and hundreds of other channels. We use it as our primary streaming device, we canceled cable several months ago and those channels are what we watch.
Anyway, just thought I'd point out the connection with the Kindle Fire and the Roku.
