I usually pay $2-$3 plus 3.99 shipping for a book. I go for Very Good to Like New and sometimes New if cheap enough. I don't buy penny books they are in rough shape and no one knows what they've been through. On eBay I tried to buy books that have real photos.

I've lucked out a few times when very good was Like new and then there has been times when Very good was more like good condition or worse and those I had to pitch. I've learned reading feedback is good way to find out if the seller is honest or not. It needs to be 98% or more for me to even look at their feedback.
