I doubt EPUB3 will help. Most people buying an e-reader know little to nothing about formats. If they buy their e-reader from BN they will probably buy their books from BN. If they buy their e-reader from Amazon, they will buy their books from Amazon. A few folks will try buying at the wrong store and learn about the format that way.
