This is by no means the end of a "format". It is merely the end of an early DRM scheme and its sole vendor outlet. The MOBI format lives on.

That should be "...mobi has a nice dictionary-implementation. This hasn't ended with the closing of the old Mobipocket store and the end of its old DRM scheme. The current Amazon Kindles still use the same dictionaries provided they lack DRM or use the newer Amazon DRM.
