When I was in the service, they would move me for free including books, book cases, books, book cases, and so on. I started out with planks on bricks for shelves. That was heavy but I didn't care.
Finally it reached a point where after they came and estimated what I had, my commander called me in and said, "there is a limit." So I reduced. No more bricks.
When I became a civilian, I still worked, and they would move me, but there were more limits, so I I really started to reduce.
Then I started working part time, still flying, but on a contract basis, I had to move myself or pay for it.
When I got a moving company estimate, I reduced more, and decided to move myself with some friend's help.
I never knew how much what looked like a small box of books would weigh. I killed my back. I reduced even further. I mean really further.
Then since I had been missing the sea, I decided to live on a boat, but had to have a very large storage unit for the overflow. I reduced more.
And finally I swore, I would only buy eBooks, and light paper bound books and cull them every year. I still have a storage unit, but it is much smaller, and now after a lot of practice, it is easier to reduce.
The plan now is to live on the boat, and to have a storage unit garage for my truck, power equipment, tools and other stuff. The other stuff including books would now fit easily in a 5x10 foot unit or smaller if it is packed neat.
I am getting there.
