Yes to the second question.
I know nothing about 2.1.2 unfortunately. It must be the newest firmware. My own has the 2.1.1 firmware, and in spite of how others have described it as a nightmare too, I never had a problem with it. The only thing was inability to connect to WiFi, which I corrected by doing a factory reset. After that, everything was working fine.
I would suggest giving it a couple of days, and then if you see you're having issues, trying another firmware. I think 2.0.6 can still be found on the forum.
