I don't read a lot of bestsellers. I've downloaded a ton of content from Fictionwise and Feedbooks (and several of the other free sites, but I really like being able to download directly into the Kindle from Feedbooks).
I'd consider being "locked in" if the Kindle would
only read Amazon DRM books.
I'd also grant, though, that there are techies and then there are techies, and the Kindle is really designed for readers who are only techies in that they are willing to read off of an electronic device. I'd guess well over half the people who have Kindles have never gotten a book from another source (just based on some of the forum contents on Amazon). I'm not sure what percentage even
know you can download from elsewhere.
