I'm not sure when forum avatars first appeared on the 'net, but it's a fair few years ago now. In all that time, I think this is only the second time I've seen this particular complaint. The first one didn't even generate a page of replies before the "plaintiff" had had sufficient abuse to leave the forum.

Honestly, on any sizeable forum you'll find dozens, or scores of identical avatars used without anyone batting an eyelid. The fact someone thinks that copying one's use of a publicly available picture constitutes rudeness can only in turn lead me to think that that someone should perhaps not be using the internet at all.....
