That sounds similar to my observation. The K4 has ~18% darker texts than the K3, whites are about the same level(k4 is less than 1% brighter). The approximate visual differences can be seen in my earlier post https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...6&postcount=75

So based on my experience, if I were to speculate anything, generally the K4 should have better screen, not worse. K3 is one of the first pearl screen products. They should've smoothed out most of the production quality issues if there were any, and could've made minor improvements without any announcement, which is not something unheard of in electronics.
