To everyone who wrote: I have a First Class Honours degree, a PhD, and the brain of a flea. You are all correct, I'd simply failed to apply the protector properly and left bubbles between the screen and the glass. Thank you all for pointing out what should have been blindingly obvious. My Kobo and I are now living in harmony once again.
