In the UK we have 11th November (from the end of WWI) as our commemorative day for past wars.

Before the First World War we had 21st October - Trafalgar Day .

we also celebrate 11th November. personally i'm for as many holidays as possible (although hopefully we could skip the wars that are commemorated by them, next time). We don't celebrate Trafalgar Day though...

what does the J stand for ? (sincere question ; i really can't guess).
EDIT : never mind... (pfff.... my brain was still stuck on Nazi Germany, forgot about the others. technically though, VJ day is August 15, 1945. also a holiday here, completely unrelated to the japanese or WWII. or any war in fact.)
