According to Wikipedia the list of countries celebrating May 8th as a public holiday is Slovakia and France (not sure if East Germany still counts).

In the UK we have 11th November (from the end of WWI) as our commemorative day for past wars.
Before the First World War we had 21st October - Trafalgar Day
