What led me to believe that no harm was meant is that Nate linked to his blog post. He must have sincerely believed that it was not offensive. Offensive is in the eye of the beholder and some of us are more sensitive than others.
As to whether or not an apology is in order, I would say it is only because the OP was unhappy. In the future, a better course of action would be to ask people permission to use their posts. Even though it's not legally necessary, it would be the courteous thing to do.
This thread also contains avatar usage hostility. I don't know if the avatar in question was an image created by the individual using it, or if he just staked claim to it. Either way, it didn't belong on this thread and added to the overall bad vibes I was referring to. |
