At least in my case (3.5 year old PRS-505), the battery is definitely slowly dying. However, keeping in mind that I often read 3-4 hours a day over the weekend, and 1+ hours on weekdays, I still only charge maybe once a week. Occasionally twice. I believe the battery was much better once, but it is still enough to read on for significant periods.

ETA: and I believe I actually bought my 505 second-hand from someone who bought it in January or so, so it is more like four years old.
