I'm on another planet here. I have an ancient Nokia phone that came over on the Mayflower. I buy minutes as I use them, which may be once every couple of weeks (using, not buying). My phone sucks in signals when other fancy phones fail. I don't have to hold it with my left hand, 2nd and 4th fingers and thumb at a 23½ degree angle to the horizon facing NNW. It just works, cost $29 and no monthly fee. What's not to like?
