On the tool bar there should be an icon that looks like a USB plug. Click on it and then click 'safely eject. . .'.

You can also eject from 'My computer'.

Calibre can also eject it.

I don't use the Sony Reader software, but I believe you need the latest edition in order for it to recognize the T1. The T1 uses a different operating system than the previous readers.
