Well, here's the thing. If you don't want to go as big as 9", you're not going to have a good time trying to actually read PDF's.

6" ereaders really aren't meant for PDF's. Most of them support it, including my Kobo Touch. And my KT actually has pretty good support for PDF's - I can rotate and zoom and all that fun stuff.

But no matter how good the tools are, the reality of it is still this: It's a 6-inch sceen. And furthermore, it's e-ink, so it's a little choppy when I'm dragging it around, and I can only zoom so far in before it just becomes more trouble than it's worth to drag it, and honestly, it's a pain.

I would not recommend going with a standard-sized e-ink screen if you want to read PDF's. You'll drive yourself nuts. Seriously, look into the 9"+. It's not as big as it sounds. The 6" readers are about the same surface area as a paperback, and as thin as a novella.

I've heard great things about the Pocketbook 903, which is a 9" reader with tons of features. It's also very open format, so it will be compatible with things from a variety of sources.
