I doubt e-readers will completely disappear. There will always be people who want a device in the Goldilocks zone for reading: not too big, not too small, not too heavy. Just right.

A phone's screen is too small (IMO). A tablet is too large for hours of reading lying down on a couch or bed. But your e-reader is small and light enough that you can hold it for hours, in one hand or the other, while enjoying screen approximately the size of a mass market paperback.
