On my search for a 7-inch android tablet around 200 USD, I happened on the Coby Kyros 7022-4G. It is the only model of this Coby line with a capacitive touch screen for 180 USD. I'm surprised that this particular model flys so low under the radar for tablets in this range. The model 7024, which seems most mentioned, has a resistive screen.
It can be found at
Best Buy or at
Toys R US.
Personally, I've pre-ordered the Kindle Fire for my Mom for to read books, check email, and other media related fun.
For myself, I've pre-ordered the Lenovo IdeaPad A1 because I wanted a GPS that I could use offline without having 3G or Wi-Fi. I am a map lover. Also, the SD card slot, 16 GB memory, and Android APPs made it even more appealing.
For now I think a $200 7-inch device is perfect. However, I can't wait to see what is on the horizen as Android OS improves with each version, and the quad-core-and-more tablets are released in the not too distant future. Then I may get a more powerful tablet for most of my commuting computing needs such as remote computer access, etc.
