I worked at Toys R Us for a time. The day after Halloween, a shopper came in to buy some things. On the way out, he jokingly told my manager, "What? No Christmas music yet?" Don't you know, my manager put on the Christmas tape the very next day.

Every day we heard the same lame kids Christmas songs (including the Chipmonks, Muppets, Disney selections, pop Christmas junk, etc), repeating themselves every hour and a half for over two months. Today I don't care if I never hear another Christmas song...
Oh, my. I can imagine nothing worse than working in retail this time of year.

My worst experience was far less grueling. I took my family to a Chinese restaurant one night a few days before Christmas one year and soon noticed they were playing one Bing Crosby song over and over. "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose....". My wife and kids didn't notice and I tried not to make them aware of it because I didn't want them to suffer, too. I timed it and estimated that we heard it something like thirty-five times. I was so glad to leave but felt sympathy for the staff that worked there. Talk about cut-throat shop owners.
