E-Ink on a phone would not be a breakthrough, I think:
1) Phone screens are usually massively bright TFTs, which are easy to read even on a sunny beach
2) Imagine browsing through your contacts and the screen takes ages to refresh
3) Advantages in battery life would not be huge, as the display gets automatically switched off when the phone is not being used.

However, Amazon could still make a Fire-like phone. It would be hard to compete against Android and Apple... But maybe in a year or so the Amazon brand will be stronger thanks to the Fire tablet. You never know :-)
