Quick follow-up: I actually did email them, and recieved a reply this morning. Samhain Publishing have no plans to make this book free from any other outlet. This is apparently unique to B&N and Amazon, and entirely on them.

Grrrr.

Since I liked the first part of the book and really liked Samhain's answers to my questions about their DRM system ("We don't have one. Why would we do that to our customers?"), I'll probably finish reading it on the Touchpad, and if I like it enough to want to keep the book I'll just buy straight from the publisher.
