I thought about it through the morning and decided Nah on the Nook. Before I saw they have poor customer service. Honestly, I just don't want to fiddle with the OS, whether I'm dual booting with an SD card (stability issues) or flashing on the device (risks).
Fire vs. tablet comes down to if you want Amazon integrated into the device or not. For some, it's a huge benefit and others a big turnoff. I'm in the latter category, even though I'm currently waving pompoms for their customer service. But I'm the "don't fence me in" sort of pony.
I DO, however, want B&N to come out with their new NC devices, complete with specs and pricing. It feels like everyone's (ok, the big brands) waiting for the other guy to respond to the Fire. Who'll sneeze first and produce an answer or slash their price to meet it? Dropping the Playbook to $299 doesn't count in my mind, nor the A1, since they are giving us mixed signals right now.

Christmas is coming up, so we could see a price war, or we could see the opposite effect: No one wants to be the next TouchPad and sell at a loss and produce at a loss to fill back orders, so people might do that sidelong look and nod to each other to hold pretty firm to current prices with a few specials here and there. I wouldn't be surprised.
With the latter scenario ... it'll be like the ice cubes at the bottom of your cup. You're tilting it up, they're all hanging in the back (hold it, hold it ...), and then one ice cube releases (someone fire sales just before Christmas), and then they all tumble after.
